Bipolar Meltdown

darkness then light
like always and forever
things getting better
and worse all the time
only worse wins
two out of three
on the toss of a coin
spends just the same
on endlessly unnecessary
glittering goodies that sing like sirens
beckoning with focus group designed doodads
calling us on the rocks
for the sake of production
growth for the sake of growth
rules the planning or really
the reflex to be productive
to save time, to make you sexy, to make you envied
to float in faux luxury in the sea of dying things
the shelf life for killing
extended into forever
no need satisfied other than the need to
consume
ravenous predation drives the carts
stalking the aisles
shelf to cart to landfill to ocean
dump in trash let drift unseen
until it seasons your sushi
oh look now on sale
wildlife adorned
In a plastic crown of thorns
an animated talking fish mounted in a frame
loaves and fishes for the masses
as seen on tv
divorced from nature
powered by a dopamine high
shoppers spending their pay on the
nirvana of ending life
on the planet
discounted for the holidays
the Dow is up
actual living things
trending down
the ends of the earth in a bipolar meltdown
angry rising seas
this time not caused by
a burning ball from space
but by all the money to be made
ending life on this our only home
where we burn the furniture
we rearrange the
deck chairs
on this sinking shopping center
more for our engorged cupboards
weight loss clinics mock
the world of starving poor
that we save
by destroying them
with military intervention
and regime change
boardroom decisions
bloody with consequences
downstream
the methane burps from the seabed
fill refugee camps overflowing
penance for the sins
of Jesus incorporated
now lovingly packaged
for the end times
just $14.95
call now and get two!
meltdown continues
