The day after Thanksgiving
is Black Friday and
Native American Heritage Day
Ironic holiday names for defeated nations
Forced to share the date with
The all consuming consumerism
We slaughtered them for
Built on the backs of the displaced
Holidays to honor the theft and desecration of their lands
The day set against the backdrop of
Mythical hospitality extended
To the soon to be cheated out of their lands
Take these trinkets and go away
Our destiny manifest by our very existence
Maybe a football game with the Redskins
Marching to victory at Trail of Tears Stadium
Chili dogs and beer with white Jesus
To celebrate the conquest
Before the shopping hysteria
Conjured by the adverts
For turkey growers and flat screen TVs
A not so virtuous circle of selling, buying, and trash
Happy Pilgrim cutouts with flintlocks from
The supermarket decorating the table
Sustenance for the invading hordes
Mobbing stores for the bounty of nature on sale
Pushing their way to the checkout
Spending plastic dollars they don’t have
To keep the earth eating machines
Gainfully employed ending life on the planet
Hurry now before it all runs out!
