A Jello Jukebox plays
Divine music gurgling up
From the primordial muck
Nature’s greatest hits
Before notes and rhythm
The hierarchy written into the DNA
Frightened apes found solace
In the vast and scary world
Any god will do in the foxhole of life
As one true religion fights another
To rule the divine hole in our heads
In this crazy cauldron of creation
An empty throne awaits
The next neuro-deity, and the next
To bow down to, to beseech for guidance
To bless our rapacious hunger
For the god given blessings we gave ourselves
To fill the hucksters’ collection basket
A sacrifice for the promise of
An unnecessary salvation
Dear god wash away our sinful synapses
When there’s nothing to be saved from
Other than our own invented hells
Damning us to a fantasy of fire forever
Or the promise of a magic kingdom in the clouds
In the cool blue sky we set on fire
When heaven is in the jello between our ears
Searching the cosmos for the greatest hits
No change in our pocket
