LA Xmas

angels begging in the gutter
maseratis gurgle by
luxurious leather interior
filed with richly fatted flesh
gold plated calf for dinner
baby Jesus bobble head on the dash
pop the corks
turn on the christmas music
protesters shot in Bethlehem
refugee camps full on this holy night
little god in the manger prepped for slaughter
sacrificed to god for our sins
kill the goat, bleed the chicken
nail him to the cross
for the crops
for the harvest
for the contract
still the sacrifice is demanded
oh ye angels of the
gutter rejoice
a king is driving by
in a Bentley
santa hat on the hood
no milk and cookies for you
the children still believe
until the veil is lifted
and the ruse revealed
hearts hardened for success
the wise men turn away
and slouch towards despair
the star fading
the angel weeps
and holds a sign
at the corner
just need a beer for the
concrete pillow and savior with a loaf and
fish for the thousands
the ocean barren the sky desperate for angels
begs for clouds
no sacrifice brings relief
polished metal badge of glory
silver status marches over
broken down angels
splayed on the hood
lights flashing
in Bethlehem
rockets red glare over the refugees on
the 405
get off at the last exit
homeless angels in the dust
sing Hallelujah to the silent night
