The Border of Reality and Delusion

Poetry forged in anger
Devolves into rant
Confronted by the limits
At the border of reality and delusion
Divided states of mind
Puzzled by the madness of our time
As if I, one person, could change
The trajectory of the heart
Of darkness on the doorstep
Our politics a sieg heil sitcom
With the potential of genocide
Mocking our intransigence
Our time so short just a preview
Of life everlasting that is only
A projection on a crumbling wall
Then I hear leaves rustle in the breeze
And I stare blankly into a future
That will do what the future always does
As it becomes the past
And the leaves melt into time
That disappears in this very moment
I take another breath
Where is the beauty in this day?
As it slaps my face with a quiet quickening
When worry frowns of a sudden
A slight rapt smile dispels the dark
If only for a moment
For no reason as happiness
Is unreasonable
